As big fans of American history, our own Dr. Mary Lou Luebbe-Gearhart and her husband, Dave, recently visited the Lincoln Society of Dayton, Ohio, to attend the unveiling and dedication of a new 11-foot bronze sculpture of 16th U.S. President Abraham Lincoln.

The once-in-a-lifetime moment at the Montgomery County Courthouse Plaza commemorated Lincoln’s appearance at the historic Old Courthouse during a presidential campaign stop on Sept. 17, 1859.

Artist Mike Major created the beautiful statue, which features a young Abe with no beard. With music, a presentation by renowned Lincoln scholar Harold Holzer, and even a group of Lincoln Society Members dressed as Union soldiers to help mark the occasion, it was an unforgettable tribute to an extraordinary man.
